I feel like this whole thing is an indictment more of our healthcare for-profit system than individual hospitals or groups but I’m sure some are being shittier than others in exploiting a crisis.
I’m sure they’re losing money but they’re already doing things like reducing hours to compensate, holding off on matching is just them being greedy, hopefully they don’t realize that they can continue to do so indefinitely without consequence.
But why should the peons get to put money into the market when it’s low when Tenet Healthcare’s owners can do it instead? They’re going to be better stewards of that investment, plus they know how to spend it better. I mean, shit, does @mjiggy even know how to pick out a yacht? Do you even yacht, bro?
In fairness, this was going to be a clusterfuck one way or another. Our government isn’t really set up to cut a check to everyone. So either the 250M people not currently on Social Security were going to have to sign up on some website that was crashing 17 times a day due to all the traffic, or you were going to have to do it as some sort of instant tax credit and run it through the IRS.
Paging the narrator. Narrator to Sound Stage 3. We need you to lay down a voice track…
Narrator: They soon realized…
I wouldn’t even know where to start with yachts so I guess I don’t deserve that money…
File right away. I filed last week for this reason and I’m pretty sure they’ll use 2019 for us since it’s been filed before they start their checking.
I still don’t understand why this needs to be some kind of tax credit. Aren’t people just getting a check?
You would probably wear shoes on your yacht.
How much do they match? If they are cutting hours they are also cutting how much they would be matching anyway. It does sound cheap but if it’s cut that 5 or 6 percent or fire people it doesn’t sound as bad as it could be.
Everyone getting a check pays taxes. They know where you are.
They don’t have a list of all citizens with current mailing addresses, for starters.
I know, that’s kind of my point though… That’s why it sort of has to be done based on taxpayers and through the IRS, as some sort of tax credit.
They did it that way because they can’t stand the idea of giving money away to individuals, unless that individual happens to be a corporation run by one of their donor friends.
Just got off the phone with our bank. Nobody knows shit yet. They haven’t released information on how to even apply and are awaiting guidance from SBA. I am bracing for a multiple-week delay while they sort everything out. Gods help those businesses teetering right now, they may close before they can get the machine started
Got basically the same info from a Lender I have used who does SBA. He said I know as much as him right now and they are waiting for guidance to come in.
https://www.mass.gov/info-details/massachusetts-covid-19-unemployment-information
Currently self-employed individuals and 1099 contract employees are not eligible for unemployment benefits.
I am positively shocked to learn that claims of unemployment expansion to cover these workers turned out to be complete bullshit.
I found this article useful:
So when are these $1200 checks being issued?
Check the date on that. Illinois put out guidance that self employed are eligible for the monies, but that they’re not ready yet to accept applications.
