Not denying that, but the language of the post I responded to talks about how indefensible real estate depreciation is.
I’m not so sure the industry would just sit back and accept the difference coming out of the value of the asset, particularly given how highly leveraged most are. I think the rent pricing equations would change. It would certainly be a fun little experiment though, with potentially catastrophic outcomes. You know who is a really shitty landlord? Banks. Our preservation arm does some bank work still, but we mostly turn it down these days unless it’s a proper rehab for a vacant property. They’ll find middle man companies with extremely sketchy insurance who in turn hire any crackhead they can find off Craigslist to perform building maintenance for the price that the national management companies and banks demand.
Ok, now I just have to figure out how the hell to file when the time comes. Even if I keep playing online I’ll likely lose more than half my income even if I triple my hours, but I’m not sure that qualifies.
My main concern is covering enough of my expenses that I am in a position to resume normal “business operations” when this is over.
I guess I have to go month by month and see what happens. If I lose half my income, I can cover my expenses. If I lose 2/3, after taxes I’ll go slightly under my monthly nut.
It’s also an awkward situation for me to think about because I don’t want to take help I don’t need, but my challenges will extend far beyond the end of this due to the recession’s impact on games. So it may be that I should take the help I am legally entitled to now even if I don’t need it, so that I have it for later.
I’ll have to dig into it sometime next week, I guess. I’m hoping the $1200 check creates another spike in online poker game quality, which seems almost gross to hope for, but I’m staring down a looooong time of reduced income. Anything I can make now will go toward helping me ride this out in a worst case scenario and save/invest for my retirement and a house in a best case scenario.
The online poker games I am in are the best i have seen since Black Friday. Why is your income going down? A bunch of people at home getting pretty large unemployment should be a boon for the industry for a few months.
I will be beyond shocked if I actually qualify as a Schedule C contractor and become eligible for unemployment. It’s probably going to be something like of mountains of paperwork showing no income for an entire quarter, to be paid out months later, and almost nobody is going to go through the hassle because by that point we’ll either already be back to work or too destitute to care anymore, and we’ll have all missed impossibly narrow filing deadlines either way.
Mine dried up a lot the last couple days but I could just be running bad as part of it. But I’m going from a private live game that played like a very deep 5/T where I had an absurd winrate to 200NL online and I haven’t played online much at all over the last 12 years…
Ya that will do it. I would encourage you to take a shot at the apps. That seems to be where the live donks have migrated in the last couple weeks. I was profitable before this and now it has been a literal Federal Reserve style printing press the last two weeks. I just play micros but I imagine the bigger games are decent also.
Its easier than it seems. 3 tables is pretty easy tbh. The interface is pretty slick on bros. Ppp is harder. Main benefits is no poker tracker/hem that i know of so the games play a lot different than the main us facing sites. Straight up exploitative play is super good at the games i play. GTO not required at all.
A million new live fish are swarming the 100 and 200nl tables on globalpoker dot com, I can tell you that. I’ve played almost exclusively online for a living for 15 years, and as WichitaDM said the games are the softest around since Black Friday. It won’t last long.
Don’t really see the need to mess around with apps or whatever, but I’m hardly a guy who shops around. I played exclusively on Stars for like 6 years straight pre-BF; I’m lazy like that.
Edit: GTO and exploitative play aren’t, practically speaking, mutually exclusive, GTO gives one a baseline of optimal play vs optimal opponents and then one can make exploitative adjustments to their human opponents. Should also note that GTO has so many “mixed strategies” that it’s completely impossible for a human to copy it, and most experts advocate making “human” ranges that approximate GTO.
