Bailout / Stimulus Discussion (Hints Missed & Shartz Fired)

Oh look this is terrible. Pelosi and Schumer are trash.

Vote against it AOC or you are terrible too.

Randstanding and breaking unanimous consent would full stop be the end of her political career.

Obv the bill sucks, it was always going to suck, but its significantly better than the original senate bill and on the high end of anything we can pass. If the dems stall this for a month arguing for a ton of positive shit they will eat 100% of the blame for people suffering. I mean we already saw the majority of people pissed they refused the first bill.

This is on Pelosi and Chuck for not doing better, but they were never going to do better. They’re apart of the problem.

I agree with this. Would be a big mistake on her part to make an issue out of this bill at this point.

I can’t believe they’re going to dole out $2t and not even vote on it.

Oh iron. Did you believe all that bullshit about balanced budgets and debt clocks and all that other nonsense?

So, what concessions have the Dems won that weren’t in the original Republican Senate bill? This is what I can see from various news reports.

  • The biggest one and probably the most important is that everyone at the bottom will get $1200 regardless of previous income instead of starting at $600 and ramping up.

  • There is expanded unemployment insurance, for four months rather than three and for more money, and it is being made available to gig economy workers, furloughed employees, and others who would not normally qualify.

  • Increased funding for hospitals.

  • Banning aid to businesses owned by certain politicians or close family members.

  • Oversight for corporate bailouts similar to what was used for TARP.

  • Removal of the provision that would let Mnuchin wait six months to disclose who got bailed out.

Yes, I did.

The only reason we’re not on the path to becoming Greece is inflation and interest rates are low in defiance of Macro 101. We’ll see how long that lasts.

You’re the only one who did. They duped you. It was only ever an excuse to keep poor people desperate. How many times do they have to fire up the printers in order that billionaire’s portfolios don’t have to drop any further before you understand that it’s not a meaningful restriction. It’s an artificial one put in place (and kept in place by both demE and GOP pols) because good hearted people like you fall for it.

I mean I knew them putting it all on the charge card was in their range, the suprising part is usually the House likes to have opinions and get airtime on CSpan before they do this stuff.

Also, it really wasn’t that long ago that the Fed had the power to do things.

I was kind of confused by that too. Greece’s whole problem was that it couldn’t inflate its way out of its onerous debt obligations! Lol Euro, lol Euros.

Has anyone found a good explanation on how the expanded UI will actually work?

This is the most detailed explanation I have found so far:

Unemployment insurance would also be significantly bolstered for four months by increasing payments and extending the benefit to those who typically do not qualify, such as gig economy workers, furloughed employees and freelancers. Specifically, the bill would increase the maximum unemployment benefit that a state gives to a person by $600 per week and according to Schumer, “ensures that laid-off workers, on average, will receive their full pay for four months.”

I’ve also seen it described as being extended for thirteen weeks.

JFC they did the stupid ass thing where they’re basing it on 2018 taxes, didn’t they.

Cruise lines and airlines bailed out.

Oh yeah, and endless cash for the hospitals that are swimming in money and harass and balance bill their customers into bankruptcy.

I can’t keep caring. I just can’t do it.

The $1200 is the small fish. They are guaranteeing everyone’s salary up to ~$45k for 4 months. That’s sick, IMO. I know first hand that the uncertainty as to whether you ever get your job back would be very scary, but I would be fine w/ being laid off for 4 months if I knew I would get my job back at the end.

Markets seem fairly nonplussed although I assume a lot of that is buy the rumor, sell the news. I for one also think 500b is a drop in the bucket of what these companies need and they will be back in a month or two for more. If the Dems cave then I will be really pissed.

(Idiocracy narrator: In two months he was really pissed)

Thank god they saved the cruise industry.

There’s gonna be all kinds of shit in this bill that we won’t find out about until it’s passed. The text hasn’t even been released yet.

Wonder what all the mouthbreathing boomers I see on social media crying about Nancy adding “unrelated” stuff will say now!

Also I am always amazed how the few shitposting boomer/gen x social media goons that haven’t been unfollowed by me are all in lockstep by 10am each day to the new right wing bullshit. Do they get a special newsletter delivered or do they really all watch Fox and Friends together to get their daily hot takes. None of them realize how openly transparent that is.
