Bailout / Stimulus Discussion (Hints Missed & Shartz Fired)

This has been the experience I’ve been living since January basically. What’s about to land… well. It’s going to square itself again, which given its current size is pretty fucking scary.

Is there a reason other than the powers that be not wanting it covered why there is almost no coverage of the coming carnage?

Absolutely everyone out there in public is all in on trying to prevent a panic. Because normally that’s the right thing to do. A lot of our routine procedures are working against us on this thing and have been since the beginning. It really was an ideally crafted threat to fuck us all up.

I’ll take the over.

Yeah I wouldn’t be shocked if it takes a decade to recover from the next 6-12 months. The early recovery period could be really really shitty. If Trump gets reelected this is just the appetizer course and it’s legit time to bail on the country.

I don’t believe we’re recovering from anything. I think this is just the beginning of a fundamentally new era, and I have little confidence right now that it will be an improvement over what most of us have known.

I totally agreed high voter turnout pre covid and USPS fuck up but we will see. Again only 26% of biden supporters plan on voting in person and the USPS is in fucking horrible shape, gonna get worse, and now you have to pay for premium postage to do your ballot.

I go from optimistic to waaf all the time based on new evidence and right now I’m not so sure.

The important thing to remember is that pain = motivation in politics. This is a time of crazy pain, and the USPS stuff is lol horrible for them. It’s not going to get covered as ‘post office sucks’ it’s going to get covered as ‘Trump admin sabotages postal service in middle of pandemic’ (a MUCH better story for the ratings). People get really irate about that kind of thing. Mess with their commute or their packages and prepare for battle. Ask Chris Christy how impairing infrastructure for political reasons works out.

People can be as mad as they want but if their mail in vote is never counted does it matter. If it takes over a few weeks to count and supreme court declares trump the winner like in 2000 does it matter because only 26% of biden supporters plan on voting in person

Because they still think all this is posturing and don’t actually know how close we are to the edge. We are two days away from doing an elegant swan dive into the abyss and as far as I know no one’s even talking. Money needs to be hitting people before September 1 and I just don’t see how that’s possible under any circumstance at this time based on nothing happening. Once people fall 2 months behind on rent, there’s no making that up unless Markey’s plan is adopted giving $2k per person retro to March. I know no one here believes that plan will actually happen.

It is absolutely legit dumb that Democrats did not do a skinny bill here to make sure money gets into people’s pockets before September 1. Millions of people’s lives are about to be ruined and we’re still in here talking about the political effects of this. The political effects of it. If people are wondering what privilege looks like, even when not trying to ‘be’ privileged, this is it.

What we’re about to go through, and what we’re going through right now, is exactly why no one wants to do major legislation in an election year. These people are systemically out of touch and ‘need’ to see the dystopia as portrayed in movies when societies fall apart to get it. Many of you are okay with that. I’m not. These are people’s lives. If there’s one thing we’ve seen over the last 5 months, it’s that none of this stuff plays out like it does in the movies in any way. I have a feeling many of you won’t like what’s coming no matter how well you think it plays in the big picture long term. Man do I hope I’m wrong about what’s going on and about to happen.

Congress isn’t even in DC and as near as I can tell there have been zero meetings between the Dems and the GOP since last Friday. So I concur that there is basically zero chance anyone gets any money by September 1st. It seems very unlikely that a multi-trillion dollar bill will get passed right before the election either so it is hard to see this getting done ever.

Has anyone seen any news about how Trump will even try to implement his extra UE benefit executive action? Obviously we know it isn’t happening but are they even trying to find a loophole to pay people?

Because the GOP uses fear to stimulate the amygdala. The Dems use common sense and rationale which is boring.

In between his hourly pleas for a capital gains tax cut, Mnuchin assured us the money would be going out in “a few weeks.”

It’s always a few weeks. Always. Close enough to be ok and long enough that nobody ever follows up two weeks later.

Meanwhile STONKS are about to set new S&P 500 highs.

The media coverage of this is so infuriating.

Never is it mentioned, let alone emphasized, that the Republicans CAN’T EVEN PASS THEIR OWN BILL AND THAT DEMOCRATS ALREADY PASSED ONE.

I truly hate the press in this country. Trump is right: they’re a disgrace.

Yes, they actually are using a mechanism to try to do it. Whether that mechanism happens could be in the ‘it will happen in two weeks’ vein that Trump is so happy to say about everything that never happens or there might be a lot of complaining and that small amount of help is actually coming temporarily. I would definitely not count on any of that money being in anyone’s pockets before September 1.

All analysis I’ve seen about this says there is enough money in the place the EO wants to raid to pay 30 million people $300 a week for a little under 5 weeks.

How do you pay it out? Set up a federal unemployment system? The states have all said that they are unequipped to handle it currently.

They think they can just press a button inside of the unemployment systems states have set up based on some weird mechanism of much of the money they’re trying to steal already being part of the CARES Act. Of course most of that money is gone, but hey it’s a shot right?

This is partially on Nancy too.

She shouldn’t even be going to these Schumer/Meadows/Mnuchin/whoever talks.

The line from the House leadership should be: We did our job. We can’t do the Senate’s job too.

This article seems to imply that the WH has enough money to pay the extra $300 Trump Bucks through early December. That seems totally different than what most people are saying?
