Bailout / Stimulus Discussion (Hints Missed & Shartz Fired)

Thankfully we’ve been eliminating the middle class for decades to minimize the pain.

Lol she’s just crazy with her money. One time she wanted to get a new entertainment center. It was like $2K or whatever. She ended up buying a different one that was on sale even though it was more expensive. But because it was on sale, she thinks she saved money. She does the same with hotel rooms. She’d rather spend $500/night on a hotel room that is on sale rather than $300 for a cheaper room even though both basically offer the same level of comfort.

She mixes Louis XIII with Pepsi.

So to recap, the GOP wants a shitty bill, and can’t even muster 50 votes for it in the Senate with a 53-47 majority, and the Dems are just going to roll over and compromise?

They’re extremely competent, but complicit as fuck.

Thanks, Biden! See, this is why you can’t elect Democrats!

Then we launch all the lawnmowers in all the land into orbit.

Yeah I mean it’s the entire country basically. Like from corporations on down. Probably 70-80% of people either don’t make enough to have the opportunity to make bad decisions or make bad decisions. I’ve been living below my means for the last five years or so, before that I didn’t have the means to make it possible to live below them.

But, I feel like the blame for those making bad decisions has to start with the system. We should be teaching kids in high school how to manage their finances and save. We should be paying people enough to have that opportunity.

Lol this is unreal.

This is an example of an area where I struggle to spend money. Like in 2014 I was staying in $60/nt or less hotels, reading reviews just hoping for a clean one. I never spent over $100/nt. Now I can afford it but I can rarely justify it to myself. I kept old furniture that desperately needed replacing like 3 years longer than I needed to. I had to talk myself into springing for nice stuff.

I kept buying tickets in the cheap seats to games for a year or two, too, then finally started upgrading when I’d take my dad to a game.

I guess the point is that habits are hard to break and it’s important to make good decisions earlier in life and set habits that protect your financial security.

If I were the Dems I’d pass a slightly different bill each day. I’d strip the liability shit out, I’d strip the defense money out, and I’d pass a clean $600/wk for 3 months + $1200 one-time stimulus + $1200/mo bonus for essential front line workers. Then the next day I’d pass $800/wk + $1200 +1200, but for six months. (GOP should not want to do this again a week before the election.)

Then I’d wait a few days and pass $500/wk and $2400 direct stimulus + 1800. Then I’d wait a few days and pass $400/wk and $3600 direct stimulus +2400.

Let the narrative be that the Dems are all about providing assistance to people, and flexible on how to do so. I like increasing the direct payment because it helps people who are behind on their rent/mortgage, and also rewards those who saved up money and aren’t screwed yet to feel like they’re getting a piece of the pie too.

Let the narrative also be that the Dems have passed four or five different versions, the GOP has passed 0 and the GOP won’t vote on any of the Dems versions.

Meanwhile if it doesn’t pass, Biden and the DNC should use some campaign money to set up soup kitchens and shelters. They can’t provide the level of assistance the government can obviously, but they can demonstrate that they’re trying to do whatever they can while the fat cat Republicans sit on their fat cat asses and do nothing.

Consider yourself lucky if you’ve never had to make a claim based on wages in more than one state. 8 weeks and counting and haven’t seen a dime yet. Multiple snail mail forms, requests to fax/mail info, hours of hold time on the phone, etc.

I can’t imagine the emotions experienced by someone who needs the money to put food on the table.

I assumed by now we would be far enough down the slippery slope that giraffes and flamingos would be having orgies so wild that clovis would blush.

My favorite part of that article was: “During any presidential election year, Congress typically isn’t expected to tackle any major legislation, but the pandemic and urgent needs nationally have forced leaders in both parties to the table.” Stated very matter of factly as if this is a normal thing in a functioning democracy.

Ugh

They offered $600/week for 4 more months as a stand-alone and Pelosi turned it down (wanted until end of q1 if stand-alone)

Now dems will get the blame and they’ll end up giving in to a worse deal.

What other pork was built in? If it was just a straight 4 month increase with renegotiations after that point, she should have taken it

Looking more into it it also included the liability protection that mitch wants.

But the narrative will be they offered a skinny bill and it was rejected.

Also, even if they agreed then it would be weeks for new checks at this point as states update the dates in their systems apparently, so by waiting this long, Republicans already guaranteed a lapse. But that nuance doesn’t make it into the narrative.

Yeah, I mean they want to punt it until after the election for a reason. They want to maximize their equity in the election and then pin whatever happens after that on Biden.

The problem is people have bills to pay and food to eat from now until the election.
