Awful shit Trump did today (Hi Mrs.TSA agent looking at my phone)

“after 20 years so long good luck?” “I don’t recall saying good luck”

Legit LOL’d at that line. Also makes me wonder who is the NYT source that both throws the President under the bus for caving, but takes care to note that it’s because of his intimate knowledge of bond market nuance.

They did a thing that made a lot of people mad, and no one could stop them from doing it. It’s the MAGA dream.

I’m not seeing much wrong with this theory.

No, we HAVE NOT formally negotiated, nor pecked any derrières at the White House. We floated a guano mineral deal but US officials scoffed at the idea of supplanting the surplus of odious excrement in their halls of power.

In fact, we’re drafting a 800% retaliatory tariff despite today’s events.

(Obvious satire)

I wonder where those cuts are coming from?

1.5 Trillion in Cuts? Wat

Poetic that the budget passed by exactly the number of currently vacant seats left by Democrats who died in office.

The leadership basically pinky swore to the hardliners that they would do 1.5T in cuts even though the budget they passed only requires 4B. Hopefully the hardliners actually tank this thing at the end when they renege but I’m not holding my breath on that.

Medicaid and SNAP get them most of the way to their target (~$1.1T?). That would be unpopular but probably not enough they couldn’t get away with it. Most of the rest could come from dicking around with Medicare and slashing science and education. That is one hot stove but they seem bound to touch it anyway.

My guess is that it’s actually true that there’s no appetite in the Senate for far reaching cuts. They’ll settle for trimming a bit and doing evil stuff like work requirements for Medicaid but it won’t get anywhere close to the 1.5T the psychopaths want. They’re already doing that bullshit accounting gimmick where they’re saying the tax cut extension will cost $0 because they didn’t want to find the cuts to offset it. Then it’s a question of whether the hardliners capitulate again or stick to their guns and tank the whole thing.

Can’t we just not do the cuts because we’re going to get 1.5 trillion in tariff money?

I believe that the 1.5 trillion figure is over a decade. Like as not, Medicaid and SNAP will bear a huge hit, but I don’t think anyone is really expecting the programs to disappear.

Not sure if the budget accounts for those DOGE checks though

Cabinet meeting live on MSNBC. Trump yapping about how great things are, and how other countries aren’t treating as fairly.

Why don’t Rubio and Hegseth unbutton their jackets when they sit down?

That’s true. The proposed $880B over 10 years cut to Medicaid would be about 12%. SNAP would be cut $230B over 10 years, about 21%. Source: NPR. I’m not saying Republicans don’t have a heart. Yes I am. But they also have an instinct for self-preservation.
