All I said was that I would resign, give the community the opportunity to find a replacement, help make an orderly transition, and only eventually flip the switch if a replacement for me couldn’t be found. That seems like pretty reasonable response for a person forced into a position they find unacceptable.

Seems really good to me. I think maybe you’d be thinking that everyone would join it, but I don’t think they will. C’mon. We can just put the people in the poll who said they want no ads in to start. I think we should run another poll on this to seal the deal - be more direct about it being a small decision - and expect it to be good to go.

I’m all about network effects and the idea that people should collective own the added value they create through those effects but the infrastructure does matter and workers deserve fair payment. Zz micro Greg etc should 100% bill the site a fair value for their work. (if someone doesn’t trust their valuations then put in the time debunking them) and take it out of donations and ad revenue until they are made whole. Ongoing maintenance time should be billed too. Any revenue in excess (if that ever occurs) should belong to the community and we should decide what to do with it but workers first imo.

SA, you come across really badly itt from my perspective if that means anything to you (probably not) like even if you are 100% correct you’re not doing your position any favours with the bombastic style in the face of the reasonableness of zz micro et al.

6ix style triple post! We should also all bear in mind that we’ve kind of already won right? I think the majority of people just wanted a place to post their takes where a few hundred other smart people might read them plus a news aggregator with a cynical left wing bent. Mission accomplished banner.jpg anything else is gravy imo. Zz et al should be able to bill out at a fair rate, hand over the keys and say ‘fuck this’ at any time because its already surpassed expectation at least for me and he/they deserve credit financial and otherwise for that.

Final thoughts. Maybe this topic would run smoother if there were actual figures itt. I haven’t seen any though I did gloss over a bunch of pages. Do us an invoice so we know what we’re dealing with. Like zikzak put in 100 hours to port this thing over here and he’s gonna cut us a break and only charge half market rates because it’s a half favour so that’s 100 X $75 for $7,500 owed to ZZ (Just spit-balling I don’t know the real rates or time taken). Rather than ‘we’re gonna have ads an take money for a bit because I did a bunch of work and want to see remuneration’. Put the whole thing on front street and then we can agree or disagree with your numbers rather than the concept.
Someone made the effort to get this info and the word “ridiculous” was thrown around.
It seems like zz’s position is,
- I wons a vote on another site so I’m doing what I want because mandate see
- I’m collecting all net revenue the site makes with no end in sight because we make so little now there’s no point in discussing it while I’m in a position to keep talking it all…
- Everyone needs to be really really nice to me

I realize there was a vote, and it was 50-2. Also, I have issues with some of the bullet points. I also appreciate all the work that has gone into this.
This group will have the community’s permission to distribute any net revenue to itself or otherwise disburse as it sees fit
Personally, if this is a community-driven effort I don’t think that previous vote was specific or known enough to bind decisions here… I realize that idea is going to infuriate some people, but it’s just one opinion.

GTFO with this “unlimited revenue” BS. You have seen the actual numbers.
If you truly believe that revenue will increase dramatically at some point in the future, tell us what you think is a fair compensation for the work done and we might come to an agreement to cap it at that number.
Idk who you think wrote that the site would someday generate “unlimited revenue,” but it wasn’t me. If you’re going to get indignant over something at least point your energy in the right direction.
I asked zz multiple times what he thinks his work is worth and he has refused repeatedly to put a number to it. Based on something zz posted, I threw out this number, to which we got: lol not enough, what’s your point, going to keep taking it all.
