About Moderation

There are 8 billion people in the world. Like a dozen, for obvious reasons, not including you, are not invited to NMNM. In a theoretical and practical sense we can still say everybody in invited.

Speaking of Discord though, the owner/admin/godking/whatever is a dear friend of mine (and I won’t even say his name out of privacy respect even though duh we know who it is) and he anon’d himself on here, Unstuck Politics Dot Com, due to @Riverman’s abusive unempathetic belligerent takes in the cryptocurrency threads, and whoever is responsible for condoning a culture where takes like those are acceptable.

He hates any drama and was never involved in any way with Forum Warz.

Now, I myself personally can draw connections and inferences and what not with all this drama, and with the takes that go like,

but I’m like real smart and shit so ymmv.

Wow.

So when does the high moderation/big masters forum open up?

AllModsAllMasters Dot Com

Yeah. That’s better than my suggestion.

It’s a comin’ me thinks.

People have a right to defend themselves from colonizers

Maybe now Goreo comes back?

Ok, since we’re dropping jokes like this.

Twoplustwo was a poker and advantage gambling publishing company and discussion forum. The product was the books and the strat forum. This is why it was moderated like it was! There was a product to protect.

Because like duh obv you couldn’t have people going, “Oh yeah, well fuck you, your mother is a spewing LAGtard!”

So there’s that, but it was also coupled with {censored} and OOT making draconian and subjective rules. The whole thing about Posting Good™ was an elaborate running joke! Like 15-20 years later this forum somehow self-selected for the group of people who were not blazingly dumb but somehow also didn’t get this quite obvious joke.

Yes but there was another more relevant meme.

Q: Who are the bad politics posters?
A: all of them

Truth, what with all the talk about, “Should UPolitics be like 2p2Politics,” nobody stopped to realize that what they really wanted was OOT. The worst parts.

Q: What are the worst parts of OOT?
A: all of them

You’re not misremembering. It was trying to mock/needle you/me/us for losing money “in crypto”, because that’s a cool thing to do as long as there are No Swear Words.

I don’t really want to get into this, because the answer is at best uncertain and would likely depend on the jurisdiction and body of law, but I certainly do not regard myself as an “owner” of the website. In fact, the site is not a juristic entity, or a trust, or a nonprofit–to my knowledge it isn’t really a thing under the law. It’s as much an anarcho-syndicalist collective as anything. (We could agree to set up a formal trust or organization, but it would be a pain and require a few thousand dollars worth of effort and probably do more harm than good.)

To the extent there are implied rules (beyond thigns like don’t spam or post illegal or distasteful material), I consider them as “don’t (or don’t often) be an asshole” and “don’t intentionally troll or personally attack people with harmful intent,” and maybe also, “it you are being tolled with bad intent by people trying to make you look bad, try to turn the other cheek.” Many posts in this thread have not followed these guidelines, but the community can read what posters post and form their own opinions.

I do think there needs to be some moderation, but moderation should be light if possible, as least with regard to normal on-topic posting in threads (things like doxxing or spamming require more attention). Some people shrug off being moderated, while others see moderation as a personal attack, or either depending on the context (and not all moderation is fair and just). I don’t know what, if anything, can be done about that, except for people to try to post constructively and moderation be handled lightly.

However, I’m just one voice in the community, not an “owner” of the site. To the extent I own the domain name (which is not the site), I don’t see my role as anything other than holding it in trust for the community. As my role is basically as a trustee, if I were decide to no longer read or post on UP or I were incapacitated, I would transfer it to someone else. In fact, I previously made sure that at least one admin has full access to transfer the domain name if I went AWOL.

I guess another reason why I could be relevant in some admin discussions is that I do have experience with legal issues involving the internet, copyright, defamation, terms of service, etc., so I may have actual experience and not just hot takes on various topics.

Hey all. Just posting to rescind my perma ban request from a couple weeks ago. I still plan to take some time away but want to maintain the option to come back at some point. Hopefully things have settled down by then.

@WichitaDM I can see how this got misconstrued. “I think you know this already” was intended to be a snarky reference to the fact that the “why aren’t you shorting if you think it’s a bubble?” argument has been beaten to death 5,000 times in the crypto thread and the “shorting is dangerous” response is a stock reply. I’ve mentioned Michael Burry almost getting wrecked in the housing bubble multiple times. The point was supposed to be that everyone ITT ought to know this by now.

If I’d known you personally had lost a lot of money shorting bitcoin I wouldn’t have said this and I fell shitty that it was way more harmful than intended.

Actually lol on that note,

the jokes are big fun I know but I’m not entirely sure they’re the best look considering you re-radicalized me with one of the more preposterous bans in forum history.

I mean, right? That was your chance for proof-of-concept (and I guess it was in the end, just the opposite direction) because all anybody’s said is how they want posters to not leave and not post in AM threads and what not, like, deal!

So, I was so revved up about the Hustler Casino stuff that I decided to post here again (crypto exemption always, but even that was rare) after a year and change break. Before that I wasn’t sure if I’d ever post here again. There was some good discussion, vigorous even, and some fun which resulted in a HU4Rollz challenge. Half the fun of those challenges is discussing the terms!

However, not even a fully 24hrs passed before I was abused by two posters, one of who issued the HU4R challenge, who both seemed, dare I say, not unhinged per se, but more like the hinges needed a firm application of a screwdriver and WD-40 for some proper tightening and lubricating. Not only did you not save me from abuse, you punished me for daring to talk back to my abusers!

And none of that had to do with AM or Forum Drama™ because none of this ever was really about that. It’s all just the rubber meeting the road over and over in one long milgram experiment. And thus, I went from Guy Who Really Wants To Talk About Garrett And Robbi, to:

(I balk at the term “abuse” because I didn’t feel abused, but that’s not always necessary for abuse to have taken place, nor for the abuse to be severe)
