My understanding is something like:
- people were being moderated unfairly, in their view
- others were also upset at this because it denied them the ability to have conversations with those that were being moderated
- someone (JT, I think?) proposed a separate subforum that would be under- or un-moderated while keeping everyone on the same site
- that was denied
- still wanting a place to talk amongst themselves without mods, that group made a PM, again so that those that wanted to talk to both groups could still do so because it was on the same site
- that PM thread naturally included complaints and insults directed at the members who were viewed as were pushing these people away
- jmakin, an admin, accessed and read that PM thread without invite
- then, jmakin published the PM claiming it showed a grand conspiracy
- people skimmed the thread, saw insults directed at them, and assumed it was a conspiracy or a thread for the sole purpose of insulting them
- people were banned, NMNM was formed, and people have been lying about it ever since
This is separate from the incident being discussed by micro above, in which a couple stone cold fucking idiots falsely accused someone else of reading PMs, which was either retaliation or an attempt to claim that both sides had done it

For what it’s worth, I wasn’t really involved until just before #6 happened so am not 100% sure of the events preceding it and welcome any corrections from people other than ikes
Ikes is just a vile moronic jackass. Oreo is maybe the smartest, nicest, most helpful, most ethical person on this site and has obviously been that forever on 2p2 as well and shitty fucking Ikestoys is slandering him. It’s a disgrace.

The original thread seemed pretty shitty to me any way you slice it. It was basically “We don’t like the rules and mod decisions, but we can’t win in the endless public debate on the subject, so let’s strategize on our own how to bend the forum to be what we want.
