This isn’t to single anyone out, it’s just a good example of past animus causing an otherwise innocuous post to be read with ill intent.
Sabo could have made that thread as a way of shit stirring but it was also an actual thread that needed to be made under the old rules (nominations lasted 3 days and then the vote lasted 7 so really the thread for the September 1, 2022 mod nominations should have been opened on August 20th or so) and no one else remembered to make the thread. If literally anyone else had started the thread it probably would have just sat silent for 3 days and then been closed but because Sabo started it we instead got a separate thread that lead to some fighting and also contained a poll ending mod rotation.
The forum now has 5 mods (one hasn’t visited the site in over 2 months but we’ll still count them), with no plan or procedure to add more when any of us step down. I’m sure we can probably get by with some kind of nomination thread as needed but if things are getting shitty enough mods are quitting no one is going to willingly volunteer to take that over.

Yeah, and by that you mean, “heavily moderate the people I disagree with but don’t you dare moderate me and my friends.” Just moderate everybody the same and I’m on board.

and when they complain, ban them again. It’s not rocket science, it’s just never been done. A culture of not being an asshole and not complaining about mod decisions can be done.

If you had nobody left to condescend to, would you really still value this place at all?
Do you realize that you would get more votes than almost anyone if the whole site had to name everyone they thought was an asshole incapable of respecting mod decisions?

@BusinessGenius I rarely complain about mod decisions. I’d run for mod if I thought it would help, but I think it would hurt more than help because some people, like you, would be super in their feelings about it. That’s fair, so I won’t run.
No. I had always intended to start a pole to end forced mod rotation. Things were going fine with the current moderation team, and anyone can always start a poll to elect a new mod. The only change is that mods aren’t forced out now. But unfortunately it now appears that the several months of peace that we enjoyed were largely because Jalfrezi et al fucked off to greener pastures. I guess he got bored and decided to come back, and I guess the new mod team approach is going to be to ignore his trolling and see how that works out, which, you know, has failed every time previously you’ve tried this approach with him but maybe this time will be different.
