He anonymized the accounts, which stripped them of a bunch of details. Renaming the accounts doesn’t restore the passwords or emails linked to those accounts. The discourse support forum seems to say that you can’t recover those accounts but may be able to merge them into new accounts.
What if permission to anonymized was only given to admins? Still have to fade a rogue admin, but would that feel safer?
That seems workable. Not without drawbacks, of course.
I don’t care that much personally. It’s just an issue that I think others care about quite a bit and this place is better if everyone is happier.
Do all the drama queens realize that a significant goal for this site should be not to lose people?
Also, this fucking 6 month mod thing is terrible. We should probably have one competent mod removable for cause.
Everyone finds cause when an ally gets banned, especially when you mix in people opposed to all moderation, or at least to where the lines get drawn to ally with the objectors.
Rotating mods has worked out more or less how I expected.
Yes. Many of us called out the problems with constantly rotating mods. This was inevitable.
just watching …
The winner was going to be If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)
That I was a spectator this time isn’t a claim about prior times. Obviously I consider my differences with certain other people who have posted here irreconcilable.
I guess I’m flattered that I own so much real estate in your head that you’re willing to self ban to be rid of me whereas I don’t care about you being banned one way or the other and probably wouldn’t even bother to vote in a poll if someone made it.
I really feel that there should be a bit more effort and accommodation from the side that wants to kick out problem posters.
Was oreo good friends with Jal? I’ve read jal for a decade, I think and I can’t imagine this group failing to keep him around - not to mention the further loss that it could cause. Churchill … didn’t see anything ban worthy and Im pretty sure that he didn’t deserve all the temp bans he got - same with inso and Sabo. I enjoyed both of them as a part time outsider. I’ve personally been pmd to gtfo, and while I’m not as lefty as everyone else, I do try to stay respectful to everyone. But I won’t change my ways, fwiw.
15 posts is the maximum amount that can be deleted with the admin button on a user’s page, mods can manually delete as many posts as they feel like.
I feel like “Inso0 didn’t deserve bans” is about a hot of a take as you could make here. They explicitly danced on the grave of anything slightly progressive, and literally did so in the case of RBG dying. They were as vile of a person as you could be.
If Churchill didn’t deserve the 24 bans by 7 moderators, then there is an absolute failure of institutions in how every person who was elevated to that status sees their role. Somehow I think its less a years long failure in how multiple people see their role and more of one dude continually trolling.
It’s really dumb we’ve lost meb, gg and keed over two dudes who won’t make a significant or productive post here anytime soon. They’re over 30 bans between them. They’ve explicitly said they have taken their content posts to the captains forum. It’s insane this caused the outrage it did.
Begginner question: is spidercrab like the Peter Parker of spiderman who becomes spideradmin at certain times or is that someone else?
Sure, one post at a time right? The question was “can a mod mass delete every thread on the site”. I think the answer is no? Unless everybody falls asleep for a couple of days or weeks.
You only have to delete the OP to delete the thread as far as I know.
Ok that is more concerning.
Yes - he has an admining account and an ordinary posting account.
Can anyone do that, or just mods?
