To me, both sides of this whole PM thing seems like disingenuous point scoring. I really don’t give a shit if someone reads or shares my PMs. I stand by all the terrible things I’ve said about all of you. If jmakin reading your PMs didn’t really bother you, or it felt a bit dodgy but you’re playing it up a bit, like Harry Kane trying to draw a foul, to score some kind of point, please stop. If it really did affect you fair enough obviously but otherwise come on.

I’ll just point out that I never did any of that, which makes ikes trying to call me a hypocrite for…I honestly have no idea…even more absurd. Like, ikes is mad that I didn’t scold PC for being mean to ikes? I’m mean to ikes!

I’m justifying jmakin’s actions? That’s weird, because what jmakin did isn’t justified at all and it’s pretty clear to me no one on this site thinks it was (the post you quoted as your damning evidence is…not doing that at all! Are you okay?).

It’s pretty reasonable to say that no one has done anything as ban-worthy as jmakin (which isn’t the same thing as saying that jmakin should be banned).

But it may be telling that certain people have started threads to argue that certain posters should be banned but haven’t done so in this case.

I’m not all that big on conquering Gaul, or anywhere else, really. I’d also rather not get stabbed. And, as previously stated, I don’t really want to be mod for life. However, I reject the notion that stepping down at the behest of the Captains necessarily does anything to reduce their animosity towards me. It certainly did not when goofy resigned. I don’t think a sustained campaign of personal attacks and trolling should be met with stepping down and handing them the keys.

I’m honestly struggling to understand how some of you can’t acknowledge and accept your biases. I’ve said more than once that I’m heavily biased in favor of Jalfrezi and that is why I’ve opted out of weighing in on this, except to say just that, that if a passionate defense of Jal is needed, bias and all, then send out the bat signal. It’s ok and even natural and good to be biased!

It’s been wild though to see the posts saying that nobody likes him and he’s worthless, besides Team Euro, when it seems like some of you haven’t considered that scorching the earth with a biased take is kinda sorta uncouth.

Serious question, is there some colloquial nuance I’m not getting or is this (and “whining” etc) as derisive as it sounds?

I mean, real talk, you made that thread about the Community Dying and people have made some good-natured ribbing about you maybe melodramatically overstating the reality, but, nobody said you were a whining little tantrum baby for having the audacity to be passionate about something and expressing said passion, because that would be horrible.

I’ll be upfront and say that my biases here aren’t related to people, but statements, because I think it is so horrible and hypocritical, and above all lacking empathy to an unseemly degree, to try to shame and humiliate somebody for the particular things they care about. In fact, this goes a step further because the thing they (Marty et al but I don’t want to put specific words in anybody’s mouth) care about is the same thing you care about! You think This Community Is At A High Risk Of Dying™ because x and they think this community is at a high risk of y because z.

If it sounds like I’m calling you and Goofy et al out, it’s not personal, I mean, it really is the concept not the person but it only comes from one side. Every time I’ve argued with somebody online I’ve found myself taking the side of and defending the person I’m arguing with if they were shamed in this manner. The most recent was with Jmakin a year ago or so, when I was basically like, “Lol I just horribly insulted Jmakin and he should have the right to reply, not just the right to not be shamed for wanting to reply holy shit.”

Any time the admins over there gave in to the demands of the trolls to not be modded so harshly shit got bad.

I was always the main cheerleader in ATF because I could get away with saying outlandish shit to and about deplorable types, shit that might be unbecoming, uh, coming from MrWookie and other distinguished gentlemen.

I was also at the receiving end of the most abusively ridiculous incident (note: not “harsh” or “terrible” but thoroughly ridiculous) the P forum has ever seen, so Johnny might be inaccurate with the specifics but the broadstrokes are largely correct: there’s always been a lord-of-the-flies bullying the ‘outsider’ aspect that’s kinda gross. It’s just always been veiled because the outsider being bullied were deplorable as shit so it worked out neatly.

(We don’t have to talk about the incident but to get an idea, it resulted in the unprecedented action of MrWookie deleting pages of post on the last day of the month in a monthly LC thread that was about to be closed. Turns out, when the guy who was always front and center in ATF defending the forum and saying it’s not a bunch of bullies looking for a victim, then becomes the victim for an imaginably ridiculous reason, it’s kind of a bad look!)

Did you find those posts from the past few months beneath you in general, or specifically because they were part of a sustained campaign of personal attacks and trolling?

I wanted to assign a more complex and abstract explanation for all this but I really thinks it just comes down to people loving to retcon themselves a good No True Scotsman fallacy. People who “picked a side” the past week are lifelong sourdough haters and so on and so forth.

But since you live for the drama so much simply deleting wasn’t enough (and you had to then wait for the throttle to expire long after I had deleted) then ok fine. Yes my post was once again pointing out that somehow every post you make is simultaneously filled with whining and condescension. It’s a truly amazing combination of traits. Can’t wait until you run the place.
