Do you really think the mods trying to clean up the mess a handful of posters habitually make is the problem? It’s pretty clearly a but for problem in my mind. If no one was acting poorly the mods wouldn’t have to do anything. The fact some habitually need modding is a strike against them not the mods.
This is becoming like Trump saying he won the election. This was voted on. Your side lost. Period. Just stop already. Wookie didn’t even ban sabo for Christ sake. He quite literally had nothing to do with this whole issue.
You realize that the latest mod action you are complaining about wasn’t even Wookies, it was PocketChads. Like, you get that, right? But you still use it as an excuse to attack Wookie. It’s almost like one side of this issue is never posting in good faith…
lol
Stop with this gaslighting bullshit this is exactly why i want out
I really can’t comprehend this version of history. This site started with effectively no modding and quickly dissolved into personal feuds that ruined several good threads. Since mods started intervening in the nonsense the site is getting more enjoyable, not less. As for 22, that place was the best spot on the internet to talk politics for years and years. Any time the admins over there gave in to the demands of the trolls to not be modded so harshly shit got bad. All the iterations of politics unchained quickly turned into racist cesspools and personal bickering. Good quality modding in the main politics forum made it an amazing place to read about politics.
For what it’s worth I think this forum has deteriorated at least partly because of our minimal reaction to perpetual shit-stirrers. I know I don’t enjoy posting as much when there’s a good proportion of the forum just looking to drop a bad-faith strawman gotcha instead of engaging in thoughtful discussion. Even lurking is kind of a chore when 25% of the website is filled with months-old nonsense drama.
Never-ending patience is a cool ideal, but it only works if you have the resources and inclination to create lasting positive change in repeat antisocial offenders. Otherwise those offenders just weaponize that patience to tear the place apart - or to reform it in their image.
This was supposed to be a democratic forum where posters actively participated (in moderation and voting).
What we actually have is many posters saying things to the effect of “I’ll always vote with what King Mod wants because I can’t be bothered to think about these things”, including bans, and muting moderation threads where these things are discussed.
So we have a forum largely ignorant of some of the problems that are incensing posters here, and content to stay that way.
Some democracy.
No that is clearly not what I’m saying. I’m arguing for greater involvement across the membership in the running of this site, and I thought that was fairly clear from my post.
I’m also saying that when the electorate has switched off to the issues being voted on, you get a very shitty form of democracy that’s close to an authoritarian regime of the type seen in some very dubious countries that those same people here are quick to denounce.
Talk about strawmen.
Probably the majority of regs here, depending how you define a reg.
During the @FakeJbro debacle that led him to leave for a while, people were turning up in the thread to voice support for one side when they admitted they hadn’t read any of the relevant posts but had absolute faith in Dear Leader.
Most* of the current animosity started after a vote was taken about using the word ■■■■ , the anti ■■■■ vote lost by a decent margin, and some mods and their buddies couldn’t let it go. Eventually more votes were taken until the anti ■■■■ vote got the result they wanted. It’s fairly insulting to say “you lost the vote now let it go” in light of that history.
*The jal versus jman stuff started earlier
BTW I was an anti ■■■■ vote myself.
I honestly don’t think there is any way out of this without just banning the handful of us that feel like we got fucked over. I’m certainly not going to stop posting my point of view about what happened, unless it ALL gets dropped by both sides.
I’m not sure why you omit “Accept that most of the forum doesn’t want it your way and move on with life rather than bringing up the same complaints any time any mod does anything,” but that’s the solution most of us want.
Lol that is not at all what happened.
No, that is exactly what happened.
Ok? i had a heavy hand in that, and I’m done with this gaslighting bullshit. It is not even remotely what happened and anyone can feel free and go back and read those clusterfucks of threads if they want, but the result was an attempt to appease all sides, and almost everyone got at least something they wanted.
People are sick of rehashing this. We have good people like you and jmakin and Z stepping down, and other people leaving completely. Most people just want to move on from this. Not sure how that happens without everybody dropping it, or a handful of people getting banned.
Find a new admin asap guys, i’m serious
Well thanks for your totally unbiased opinion and for characterizing my accurate summary of what actually happened as gaslighting.
A Grand Reset is required imo. Peace and reconciliation. Mediation to help resolve long-standing feuds.
Brotherly and sisterly love. Kindness over cruelty.
If South Africa can manage it after 40+ years of apartheid why can’t Unstuck?
I’ll 2nd this…
Dam I said I wasn’t posting here today, but I can’t miss out on a group hug can I
Edit: Now that the throttle has been placed back on I guess that puts a reconciliation off for a while as well then as the 4 hours between posts will hinder any progress.
Ahhh well Euros it is.
