Abolishing the Police

Despite both screen door and storm door at the front entrance of Ms. Reynolds’ home remaining unlocked, SWAT officers used an entry tool attached to the front of an armored vehicle to puncture the screen door and rip it free from Ms. Reynolds’ home in its entirety.

In so doing, SWAT officers damaged the screen door beyond repair, heavily damaged the door frame surrounding the front entry, and tore vinyl siding from the exterior of Ms. Reynolds’ newly remodeled home.

SWAT officers then entered Ms. Reynolds’ home by turning the doorknob of the storm door which remained on Ms. Reynolds’ home, still unlocked, and pushing the door open in the manner a door is designed to operate .

Searching for a missing person supposedly

During the search of Ms. Reynolds’ home, SWAT officers opened and searched all the drawers in Ms. Reynolds’ kitchen and detached Ms. Reynolds’ appliances from the walls of her home.

SWAT officers flipped the mattresses off all the beds in Ms. Reynolds’ home and tore all of the clothes from the closets in the bedroom.

SWAT officers tore the cushions off Ms. Reynolds’ furniture and emptied the contents of open soda cans onto the floor.

In no sane world does a police officer Trump a firefighter.

I don’t know. I about the typical ten cops couldn’t take out a screen door without assistance.

F the Police

Case in point:

Police officers would have fired 2000 rounds into the elevator to make sure it was clear.

When your parents and in-laws get older you find out what fire fighters do day to day. They go around helping old people. They’ve helped the older generation in my family probably 30 times and counting.

This weeks episode of United Shades of America on CNN is about defund. It was really good.

For 22 years, Ledell Lee maintained that he had been wrongly convicted of murder.

“My dying words will always be, as it has been, ‘I am an innocent man,’” he told the BBC in an interview published on April 19, 2017 — the day before officials in Arkansas administered the lethal injection.

Four years later, lawyers affiliated with the Innocence Project and the American Civil Liberties Union say DNA testing has revealed that genetic material on the murder weapon — which was never previously tested — in fact belongs to another man. In a highly unusual development for a case in which a person has already been convicted and executed, the new genetic profile has been uploaded to a national criminal database in an attempt to identify the mystery man.

Lee also presented evidence that his trial attorney provided ineffective assistance of counsel and that the presiding judge lacked neutrality: At the time, the judge was having an undisclosed affair with the assistant prosecutor. (They later married.) Lee’s counsel on appeal appeared in court so drunk that he slurred his words.

Justice Neil Gorsuch cast the deciding vote allowing Lee to die. It was his first recorded vote cast as a justice of the court.

No murder here but it might be an even better example of why we need to abolish the police.

Every single interaction has to turn into a confrontation.

This lady went to six flags with her daughter. Six flags felt her shorts were too short and asked her to leave.

At some point the cops show up. She explains to them she was leaving, would like to leave, just wants to leave.

The police REFUSE to let her leave until she shows identification. WTH

I know we would all be worse off without the thousands of similar interactions police accomplish every day.

What percentage of police traffic stops should never happened?

I assume it is frighteningly large.

Yeah traffic stops are really weird. Like the roads are swarming with dangerous drivers who are never stopped ldo, but I guess the cops are just rolling around Black neighborhoods waiting for people to pause too long or not long enough at a traffic light.

I’d legitimately be curious if a case could be made that the optimal number of traffic stops is zero.

Is there evidence traffic stops deter poor driving?

Jfc never tell the cops you had a drink, even if it was just one two hours before.

How many police traffic stops could be eliminated by aggressive use of traffic cameras?

Ugh this is so much worse than traffic stops.

I’m sure this isn’t a groundbreaking theory but it seems like a lot of policing issues stem from the systematic conversion of cops from the people who help you when something bad happens to the bad guys lurking behind the bushes trying to catch you speeding that are trying to reach into your pocket for fines.

I have had almost no interactions with police but reflexively pucker when I see one come in for a coffee because you know they are trying to CATCH YOU doing something.

Can’t we farm that stuff out to meter maids/parking enforcement folks? Everyone already hates them.

Traffic cameras don’t know what race you are. You just need to make sure they aren’t put in disproportionately black areas.

Traffic cameras tend to reduce racism.
