Not worth the trouble politically, but I 1000% agree. More and more I’m noticing how much pro police propaganda we’re all swimming in. Watch any random episodes of Law and Order. Even the episodes with ‘bad cops’ it props up the idea that there is oversight on cops.

But cops make a ton in major cities. Some are pulling 400k a year without being chief or in charge of a department!
What. Cite for this. I find this hard to believe.
It’s not $400k but one of the officers in this article (I think someone posted some quotes from the article earlier) made over $300k in his last year and 75% of the 224 cops that retired in one year are receiving over $100k pension

Yeah the veteran cops who are really soaking the system do. The rookie cops make lousy money. Obviously I think the veterans should make less, the rookies should make more, and the job should be pretty hard to keep which would KO a lot of those veterans.
They absolutely do. Just google police pay and you’ll discover that they actually very well compensated. It mostly centers around a culture of overtime abuse.

I’m not denying they are well paid. I’m saying regular cops are not making $400k.
Baltimore is not a major city and is a pretty low cost of living. 17 of our top 23 highest paid employees were police, none of whom were commanding officers. All of them earned over 200k. Also, if you read the article, many of them have multiple misconduct investigations.
My favorite is the guy who works the front desk at city hall and the parking garage at the police department. He had 100 cases dropped because of perjury, so now he sits at a desk and collected 220k last year.
Even the average being over 100k in most cities is a ton! Cops are paid enough as is. The first few years you’re “only” making like 45 base+ot in most places but i think it being nearly impossible to get fired evens out
I’m saying start at 100k and have that be what you make your whole career. Also no pensions. None of the rest of us get pensions.
The pay more thing was mostly about teachers. I want to reform how cops are paid more than how much honestly.
Well police have a physically demanding job hunting down superpredators all day so they really need to be able to retire at 55.
