“There is something I want to share with someone who may not be watching today,” he said. “Half a year ago I met the love of my life. The world’s most beautiful and nicest person. Three months ago I made the mistake of my life and cheated on her, and I told her about that a week ago. This has been the worst week of my life.
“I had the gold medal in life, and I am sure there are many people who will see things differently, but I only have eyes for her. Sport has come second these last few days. Yes, I wish I could share this with her.”
same guy was banned from competitions for a while bc he accidentally fired his rifle in a common kitchen area the athletes shared at the world championships lol
Hard to find a comparison in another sport to Johannes (my home town hero BTW). He’s just so much better than everyone else, never seen dominance like this. He’ll take 6 gold medals.
The Netherlands broke the Olympic record for mixed relay speed skating. They did not medal because they were in the B Final. Their time beat the gold medalists by FOUR seconds.
So how did you do in the Olympics? We broke the Olympic record. Oh yeah, can I see your gold medal? Ummmmm.
Short track is weird like that, time is only relevant for 3rd place finishers in the qualification round. Having said that, the Dutch team was a gold favorite for sure and that fall in the semis broke my heart, the mixed relay team has had some shitty luck.
god i love the olympics. imagine training 70 hours a week for your entire life and your reward is being known as the guy who screamed bc his nuts got smacked by a downhill gate
Drama at the 1000m speedskate for men, the reigning world champion got obstructed in his race, finished 5th overall but is allowed a “re-skate” only 30 minutes later. Happening now, but it must be impossible.
Ukrainian DQ’d: Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych was disqualified from Olympic competition over his helmet featuring images of athletes killed during the war in Ukraine. IOC President Kirsty Coventry met with the Ukrainian early Thursday in an attempt to break the impasse, but he stood his ground, resulting in the disqualification.
