I live on a numbered street. One block south, the street is the same number, but “Terrace”. The brilliant city planners gave my address and the terrace address the same number, so I get things delivered to me often. The terrace house is a rental, so the names change.
I got a government check sent to my address, but someone else’s name. I left a note saying I had a letter for “John Doe” and to call me if that was him. There was a small box with his name on it on the stoop.
When I was living in New Hampshire 30 years ago, our road’s name needed to be changed because our “Street” shared the same name as an “Avenue” in town. This was done because of the creation of Enhanced-911.
In my Maryland town today, we have intersections where roads like Washington St. and Washington Ave. cross, with a Washington Court a few blocks away.
