2026 LC Thread Featuring PBS and People Dying

Yeah put me in the she did something side. Way too much guilty behavior. But maybe it’s something like they let Guede in to rough her up and things got out of hand.

It also does seem like maybe the Italian police did a Mark Furman and tried to manufacture some evidence, which opens the door a crack to doubt everything.

When I tried to follow the Amanda Knox stuff it seemed impossible to know what was real or not. I don’t remember any other cases where there was so much disagreement over the facts.

yeah as someone who loves true crime shit I can’t get into the knox stuff at all.

Yeah that’s the desired effect when one side makes enough noise as an advocate instead of a good-faith debater, just like the Bonds steroid stuff. The goal isn’t to win, it’s to create a big clusterfuck where no one can tell what’s real w/o spending hours and hours digging in.

See also Israel/Palestine. I know Israel is doing terrible things and lies with impunity, but on any given issue I also know the Palestine side makes shit up all the time. Same for any issue involving Russia online.

I’ve long said that Israel/Palestine is the Barry Bonds of Amanda Knoxes

First became aware of these school district takeovers in Texas when 1000 teachers quit in Fort Worth. This article talks mostly about Houston but it’s a good glimpse into the cluster that is Texas schooling.

I am not sure if Amanda is guilty or not but this does remind me of the Jon Benet Ramsey case in terms of muddying the water.

There is tons and tons of evidence that the family was involved, basically zero evidence pointing to someone from outside the home except that the absolute tiniest amount of touch DNA was found on her clothing and the people who just know they are innocent (including a district attorney who exonerated them) just ran with that as some kind of magic bullet.

But in both cases, you had cops and district attorneys who intuitively knew what happened. It seems like confirmation bias doesn’t get taught to these people enough.

I do think that when they put out one sided documentaries that it’s kind of fucked up that they get picked up.

If she is innocent, this stuff is darkly hilarious.

According to her testimony:

  1. She returned to the apartment the morning after Meredith Kercher’s murder and found the front door open.
  2. She noticed blood drops in the bathroom sink/faucet, but initially thought they might be from her recently pierced ears.
  3. She took a shower anyway.
  4. After getting out, she realized she’d forgotten a towel.
  5. She noticed a bloodstain on the bathmat and thought it might have been menstrual blood.
  6. Rather than step on the floor, she says she used the bathmat to “hop” or scoot herself from the bathroom to her bedroom to get a towel. She then put the mat back in the bathroom.
  7. She then went to the other bathroom to use the hairdryer.
  8. It was there that she noticed feces left in the toilet. She described that as the thing that finally struck her as particularly strange. She didn’t flush it.
  9. She subsequently left and went back to Raffaele Sollecito’s apartment, and they later returned together.

And yes, the bizarre-sounding “I forgot my towel, so I hopped across the room on the bloody bathmat” part is not just something invented by a TV dramatization; it’s in the transcript of her testimony.

Let’s not do this here.

dark humor, debate the case or use chatgpt?

I don’t think you can say anything about DNA and evidence generally in the Jon Benet case. The cops didn’t secure the scene at all because the holidays were being covered by less experienced police officers. People came by to help out and cleaned their home for them ffs before they processed the scene.

I agree that the police did a poor job, but they were intentionally fucking up the crime scene. I believe that he removed the tape from her mouth in the basement, then carries her upstairs and asks “Is she dead?” (she had been dead for 10-12 hours). Then they both proceed to hug her and then he puts a blanket on top of her.

Then shortly after he calls his pilot to book a flight out of state and they refuse to be formally interviewed by the police for months.

Do you think they killed her or they had something to do with Guede killing her and tried to cover it up, or something else?

I’m honestly not sure. You?

It’s not all fresh in my mind but…

The mixed DNA in the bathroom seems irrelevant since it was a shared bathroom.

The DNA on the knife seems small, supposedly could have been contamination - why no blood? Why not get rid of it if you are them? This never really made sense to me as a smoking gun.

It’s been so long I don’t remember much. But it seems obvious Guede did at least some of the actual killing, and it sure looks like Knox and her BF did a lot of guilty-acting things in the aftermath. So maybe it’s something like they sent Guede in to scare her and things got out of hand.

As the current parent of a teenager, I am a bit more sympathetic to the possibility of her just being completely aloof (like in the sequence of events from above)

had a romantic relationship with at the time.

The woman, Heidi Beirich, previously ran the SPLC’s project tracking hate groups in the US and allegedly “oversaw payments of donors’ money” to people inside of these hate groups, according to the indictment. Prosecutors say she shared a bank account with one of those sources, which included funds from the SPLC’s payments.

The charges are part of the Justice Department’s case against the SPLC over the alleged payments, which prosecutors say were done without donor knowledge and through shell companies.

The SPLC has fought the case, arguing that the government is mischaracterizing a long-standing informant program designed to gather intelligence on hate groups. Attorneys for the SPLC have also said that law enforcement officials have used information gathered by the organization’s informants in the past.

Despite her role in overseeing the payments — some of which were directed to an Imperial Wizard in the KKK — Beirich allegedly had a romantic relationship with one source who infiltrated a White Supremacy group and stole documents for the SPLC, according to the indictment.
