2025 LC Thread: Now With Added 2026

Reason for this? FCC Comissioners say kids have too much screen time.

A former youth pastor killed himself in custody in Las Vegas on Thursday, days after he was charged with murdering his wife 20 years ago during a hike in Zion National Park in Utah and reporting her death as an accidental fall, the authorities said.

The former pastor, David Vander Meer, was arrested on Monday in Las Vegas by a task force led by the U.S. Marshals Service and was awaiting extradition to Utah, a spokesman for the Washington County Attorney’s Office said on Wednesday.

Mr. Vander Meer’s wife, Bernadette Vander Meer, 29, fell 1,200 feet to her death on the morning of Aug. 22, 2006, while the couple were hiking the Angels Landing Trail, one of the park’s most popular — and most dangerous — hikes, according to news reports at the time.

Mr. Vander Meer, who was 29 at the time, said she had fallen while he was trying to take a picture of her near the trail’s edge, according to later court documents. Her death was ruled an accident and the case was closed.

However on Tuesday, the Washington County Attorney’s Office in Utah announced that it had charged Mr. Vander Meer with first-degree murder in her death, saying he had pushed Ms. Vander Meer off the trail.

The pastor had been engaged for years in what an investigator for the attorney’s office described in an affidavit as an “inappropriate sexual relationship” with a member of his youth ministry that began when she was underage. Mr. Vander Meer had told her that they could be together only if his wife were “not alive,” according to the affidavit, which identified the girl only as “SH.”

The attorney’s office also charged Mr. Vander Meer, 49, with insurance fraud, alleging that he had taken out life insurance policies in 2005 for himself and his wife that eventually totaled $550,000 each.

Investigators reopened the case in 2022 after receiving a tip from a former youth group member who said Mr. Vander Meer had been using his position at his church, New Song, to “groom kids,” according to court documents.

Gives me hope RFK Jr. will eventually be caught for his serial killing.

that story gives them motive but it ain’t proof that he pushed her. also, unless they did that hike in the dark while it was raining, that trail was always among the most popular in the park despite how dangerous it is. and over the summer too. so I’m a little surprised there were no witnesses

pastor prolly got what he deserved though

I have suddenly started seeing this “travel with livii” in the last week, I am 99% sure it’s all bullshit slop, mainly because 1) if this were true, any client that found out she was broadcasting this shit, even without any clues as to who the client is, would drop her immediately and more importantly, 2) she has multiple profiles all slinging the same slop, which is ime a surefire giveaway of an engagement farming slop generator

I don’t think she ever claims those are actual conversations, but dramatized composites of experiences she’s had dealing with those with assholes. Not sure how much she embellishes or fabricates stuff on top of that but probably to some degree

I still think super rich people would fire her immediately just for being out there with this stuff.

So do you think she doesn’t work with any super rich people at all? Or that her super rich clients and their minions have no idea she makes these videos? Like even if everything she says is fabricated and no one connects any of it to themselves, would they work with someone who’s out there telling stories they claim are at least partially based on their experiences with clients?

People like that would never interact with a YouTube. Gross.

Yeah I guess I do. Maybe she did at some point or knows somebody who does.

No I don’t think they would, and telling these stories would not be worth the risk.

She seems good at her job. Maybe finding good concierges is hard.

It’s hard to find a butler who will go down to the beach at 6:00 a.m. to grab you a lounge chair and spray Evian on it periodically until you arrive at 11:00

Just strolling around in the late afternoon like it owns the place

That’s just a cat, right?

Does not look like a bobcat. Lynx are not native here. Some exotic cat?

Definitely a bobcat.

Very skinny - unusual colors - for a bobcat. But, shrug. Bobcat do have short tails like that though. They’re also more elusive than just about anything. If it’s walking around in the afternoon like that, I would guess it’s sick and/or starving (which is looks to be if it’s a bobcat as they are generally pretty stout).

Yeah it’s on the skinny side for sure. But I’ve seen them during the day a bunch over the years so I don’t think that’s super unusual - getting toward sunset is prime lizard-eating time imo. I would guess that “urban” bobcats behave a little differently than rural ones, as coyotes do.

The “wild” animals in the Glendale area are different for sure. People talk about how bold the coyotes are in my part of town because sometimes they almost don’t run away. When the kids were little we were at a playground in or next to Griffith Park and a bunch of coyotes were just lying around chilling nearby.

I’m fairly certain these are all composite stories that have been reenacted (or complete bs) b/c I doubt any billionaire would agree to let her post these details and if she didn’t get their permission and this was true, she’d get sued into oblivion.

Oh yeah the coyotes have zero fucks to give, when I’m running and they’re in the middle of the street they move the absolute minimum distance and look at me with boredom and disdain.
