They jailed their conservative President for corruption, which for some reason makes men double down on their shitty views. Idk enough about Korean politics to say that’s the reason but it’s a thing that happened.

My very rudimentary google of “events in South Korea in 2016” shows that first woman President was indicted on corruption charges that year.
