Those were probably my friends you overheard.

Wait yours doesn’t glow in the dark?

Oh. When you said ultra-liberal I pictured the type with “in this house we believe” USA flag signs in their yard/windows for almost 10 years now, and Harris Walz signs this fall

They’re all 50 and up. Crusty old zine punk types. The guy who died was in a band called Welfare State, and had lots of friends in local bands.

I had some fun conversations about the 90s Portland band scene, which sounds pretty awesome.

The Nazis are in the Valley (East side) - and out in the desert of course.

Although one of the few black families in Manhattan Beach got a burning tire set on the porch a few years ago, so I guess they are everywhere.

What does that mean, like Burbank?

Does Valley always mean San Fernando Valley?

Like I said, the fringes

There are definitely actual white supremacists in Sunland/Tujunga, which is just north of Burbank/Glendale/N Hollywood.

I have no idea about how transgender people would be received in bars in most of LA other than I would say I think it would be as fine just about anywhere on the West side as any other liberal wealthy city area in the country, beyond that, I dunno. I would expect a lot more out of the Bay Area, even like Walnut Creek vs say Monrovia and same with say Oakland vs South LA.

Yeah, I meant like Sunland, Tujunga or Pacoima, Arleta, Panorama City, San Fernando (city, not the whole valley).

Burbank/Glendale/No Hollywood, not too Nazi I think, though not necessarily liberal.

My extremely limited/uninformed take is that SF is now entirely right wing plutocrat ghouls and all the gays live in Oakland if they’re lucky, otherwise other non-SF-proper municipalities

I mean, no. Nothing in SF is right-wing. There are still plenty of gay people, they are just rich gay people and yes, that means the number of anarchists and communists are down, so if right-wing means not anarchist or communist, then yes, they had to move into Oakland (or the Tenderloin if they stayed in SF). I can show you where my daughter has lived if you want to see where real leftists live in the Bay Area.

Most other non-SF-proper municipalities are also insanely expensive and often more expensive than SF. A right wing plutocrat wants to live on the peninsula out of the hell hole that is SF.

I can’t tell any of them apart from Peter Thiel

With the rich gay and straight people in SF you are certainly going to find people who want homeless encampments swept up and more police patrols and shoplifters prosecuted but are pro-choice, pro-gay-marriage, pro-trans-rights and such. Are they right-wing? Need more than one axis or something. Some of them will be what you might think of as good on all of that, but the rich fuckers still wouldn’t want you to treat their capital gains as ordinary income.

in “red” oc theres plenty of popular queer bars and clubs and no one GAF

i generally feel safer in those places than in straight bars, at straight ones your chances of being roofied or robbed is way higher

Yep, definitely them.

Scenes from the “DC Rally for Israel” at the baseball stadium in DC:

They awarded Richie Torres the “Courageous Leadership Award”.

I’m 51 years old and have discovered track pants. I’ve had lots of sweatpants in my life but they’ve always been thick and heavy. Lighter, slimmer, more fitted pants are a revelation and I think I’ll just be wearing these from here on out. The weight loss helps it feel like this isn’t giving up, it’s athletic! I doubt I’ll go all the way to tracksuits but it’s 2024, anything is possible.
