How can Dems compete on this playing field?

Whether you agree with it or not, case is pretty simple. Pissing off Elmo and his buddies got the most resources accumulated in human history directed towards defeating Biden (and then Kamala) and voters didnā€™t give Biden/Kamala any credit for the ā€œanti-businessā€ stuff they did to piss off Elmo and his buddies in the first place.

I donā€™t know. But I do know devastating hurricanes will probably happen under trump and somehow those will be ā€œtime to come together and save our community thank you for the help President Trump we love you God bless.ā€

Elonā€™s trans daughter telling him to fuck off might have done as much or more than Dems to push him over to the dark side.

Probably but does seem that the narcissistic injury Biden inflicted on Musk for being anti-union was the trigger for Elon going into ā€œand I took that personallyā€ mode.

By not engaging. When a dipshit says this to you, leave. Donā€™t respond. Donā€™t feed the trolls. You wont change their mind, so let them talk to a wall. If somebody posts dipshit stuff on twitter and gets a bunch of fawning replies, let them have their circle. Donā€™t engage. They want engagement, but more, they want enragement. They want those who disagree with them to tell them that so they can feel like a big special boy who has it all figured out.

Dont engage. Eventually it gets boring hearing the same bots fawning about how awesome your conspiracy theory is. Without the pushback and the engagement, they have no reason to keep saying it.

I think this is a 33%/33% divided country, with 33% uninformed spectators, many of whom know nothing about news, politics, or policy. Kamala ran a great campaign for her 33%, with enough content to garner 40% of the uninterested, many of whom donā€™t particularly like Trump. Trump put on the circus show and got 60% of the uninformed. If Dems want to fix it, I think they need to find a way to take their 33% for granted and get the majority of the 33% uninformed. Iā€™m not a Bernie supporter, but Iā€™m fine with him and he seems to play well with the disengaged (but he is too old now). Whether itā€™s Bernie or Bill Clinton or Obama, Dems need to find someone who organically appeals to those who donā€™t know much and donā€™t really give a crap about elections. Dems need someone other than the person who appeals mainly to the 33% base, or who at least also strongly appeals to the 33% of disengaged voters. I think AOC may actually fit the bill, but it canā€™t be someone who doesnā€™t genuinely appeal to normies. Mark Cuban is probably an even better option.

Itā€™s so weird seeing you all back to arguing if Harris was the right person.

The system is broken as is American culture.

You are all diagnosing why the bandaid was wrong on the gapping open wound while your patient bleeds out.

The problem isnā€™t the bandaid. It the giant open wound.

Letā€™s not overlook Putin and his cyber army. Nothing is making him happier at this moment than to see Trump reelected. Itā€™s a real thing that there are armies of bots out there working tirelessly to sway public opinion, and itā€™s working.

In my opinion, you canā€™t convert or convince the ā€œother sideā€. The key is to get folks who are on ā€œyour sideā€ to vote! Thatā€™s why Trump won in 2016 and 2024 and Biden won in 2000 (imo).

The only positive takeaway I can see is that House Republicans are going to massively underperform Trumps 2016 win. It might even be a squeaker with just a few votes. And thatā€™s a big deal because it could prevent a lot of bad legislation.

So even though they tried to rig the census and do all other shenanigans to rig the map. It looks like they screwed up pretty good. So hopefully in two years when the country inevitably hates Trump again Dems can get back the house and hold the line.

We are drawing very live to there not being a real election in 2 years. This isnā€™t just back to the status quo time.

Trump retort: ā€œSee, the only way for Kamala to be President is for the senile fool she served under for four years is for him to resign so she can play President for a weekend.ā€

Youā€™d be amazed how many are in denial about this, including major social media platforms. From my view theyā€™re doing basically nothing to stop it - and why would they? russian trolls = engagement = number go up. I dont think itā€™s just russian though. NK has fairly sophisticated technical capabilities.

AI has turbocharged this problem. One single person with a tiny bit of know how can run an effective troll campaign off thousands of accounts pretty effortlessly. It used to be sweatshop troll farms now itā€™s just one dude and a LLM. Even better for them, the LLM can speak less identifiable english in a way that they used to get exposed for in the past.

This problem of astroturfing/shilling/smurfing has spread across the entire web. Even hackernews, which is a very well moderated forum, has been infested by it, any mention of the problem publicly gets your account punished.

Itā€™s hard to estimate how much traffic on a site like twitter is bot traffic but Iā€™d wager itā€™s a shocking percentage, even a majority. Super difficult to prove though.
