2023 LC Thread - It was predetermined that I would change the thread title (Part 1)

I got tickets to the Bills game, first time I’ve been able to go. Sorry Buffalo for doing this to you. Meanwhile in Rochester we have a light dusting and it’s already melted.

You don’t.

That is brutal. Not sure how you do anything after that let alone ever do that job again.

Went through the McDonald’s drive through last night. Total was something like $18.84. Guy asks if I’d like to donate to the Ronald McDonald house ($1, $3, $5) or round up. I said I’ll donate AND round up.

The total, though, hadn’t factored in a discount yet, so as I started to pull forward, it changed to…$16.01.

THEY GOT ME ON A MAX ROUND UP.

Amazing. I love how we got 100x more of every piece of technology, but none of the 30-hour work week or month of vacation. We did finally get work from home, but it took a pandemic.

I’m staying in a hotel for my kid’s swim meet and, for the millionth straight time, there’s no housekeeping service unless requested. It seems like hotels universally paused housekeeping as a COVID precaution, but no one’s brought it back. Unless I’m forgetting a hotel stay, this has been true at every hotel I’ve stayed at over the last 2 years.

Maybe this should have been in the non-political anger thread, but I think I’m only mildly irritated by it.

Unrelated, I am surprised that in all the swim meets I’ve traveled to over the last several years, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone false start. I had this thought as we were driving here and I was going to mention it to my kid, but I knew that would just guarantee that he’d do it this weekend. So I figured I’d mention it on the way home, but knew I’d forget it, so I’m saying it here.

Meanwhile, in Canada, I only achieved partial success this past week telling housekeeping to fuck off and leave me alone.

Ah, at first I thought the “his/her” was some reference to PrOnOuNs

I haven’t noticed this. I pretty much never get housekeeping but sometimes I’ll forget to put up the DND sign and they will offer it.

My second wife’s three daughters all swam. Spectating at indoor swim meets has to be the worst. Worse than the gymnastics meets and as bad or worse than the Hades-like, annual 4 hour dance recitals. Indoor swim meets are hot, muggy, and you really can’t see much of the athletes at all.

Unless I’m staying for more than than three or four days, I’m never letting housekeeping into the room. I just try to find a housekeeper in the hallway and get fresh towels and whatever other supplies I need.

This is all very true, and made even worse by the fact that I’ll have seen less than 20 minutes of total swim time over the course of this three day meet, which includes prelims and potentially finals of 6 events.

At the poker table I C/R some guy AI on the flop with a huge draw, so I really didn’t care too much either way if I got called or the opponent folded. Talking about the hand I said I was ambivalent if the guy called or folded. Am I using that word wrong?

LOL. It was pretty funny for the first 95%, but that bonus at the end really put it over the top.

Ambivalent = don’t care

Yeah ambivalent seems correct there.

Worse choices might include ambiguous, ambidextrous, and amphibious. :grinning:

No, ambivalence means having strong, contradictory feelings.

It doesn’t mean indifference.
