I have the Cuisinart and have gotten a ton of use out of it but it would be criminal not to drop the extra $300 on the Anova.
All this talk of kitchen gadgets led me to discover that Anova has a chamber vacuum sealer for $350. Now I kinda want my FoodSaver to die so I have an excuse to buy one.
how could it possibly be worth that much?
The ability to vac seal wet things would be huge for me. I often cook in large batches then portion and freeze. If itās something like sauce or beans, I have to freeze it in one container first, then pop it out and vac seal it in another.
Makes sense
I see people post on sm about cooking steaks and roasts and elaborate meals in their air fryer which to me is crazy. Iāve mostly just used it on breaded chicken of fish that came out of my freezer, leftovers (pizza is especially good and stuff that is usually nearly un-reusable like fries and brats are as good as new), unbreaded okra, potatoes and the like. I think it does a good job of those things. I canāt imagine being able to cook a steak or something in there and having it come out anywhere as good as a grill or cast iron pan.
I finish smoked chicken wings in the air fryer to crisp them up. Otherwise our air fryer is used for the kid for nugs, fries, and the like. And it gets a good workout over Hanukkah to reheat latkes.
Thatās a good idea on the chicken wings will need to try that.
I cook frozen wings in my Ninja Foodi as itās a pressure cooker and air fryer. They come out excellent but thereās like a 20 minute wait for the pressure to build up for a 5 minute cook. Before I switch it to air frying I toss them with a little sprayed oil, machine doesnāt do that.
Taco Time crisp meat burrito is an all-time great. I used to have a Taco Time in my area in Portland but itās now a great burger place. I have no idea where the nearest Taco Time is now, they all got on Long John Silversā boat.
Probably havenāt had that since my construction days but I have fond memories.
I got a small air-fryer. Itās good because if I cook on the stovetop or in the oven, I have to disable the smoke detectors first. Also uses less energy and dumps less heat into the apartment. Clean up is not a big deal, no worse than a nonstick pan. Just spray some detergent and water in the basket and let it sit in the sink for a few minutes then wipe and rinse. Otoh I donāt have a lot of space so I have to store it in a back room and haul it out when I need it. I havenāt used it a ton but have done frozen vegetables, pork chops, chicken, and potatoes. Hoping to try some simple desserts. Iād say itās slightly +EV for me.
Filet o fish kink shaming ITT
Yeah Iāll throw down a FoF occasionally, f the haters
Havenāt had a FOF since I was a kid. Maybe 2-3 ever. Think I wasnāt crazy about the cheese or their version of the tartar sauce.
Enjoy the occasional fish and chips.
Christmas aināt dead yet.
Got this email sign-off from a corporate financial person at the end of an email dealing with a financial issue I straightened out for a client (who settled a case vs the company). Company is in the midwest.
A little early but wishing you and your loved ones a very Merry & Blessed Christmas and a New Year filled with His blessings.
I have that Panasonic toaster oven and itās very good. The biggest problem with it is that it uses Celsius as its primary temperature scale. It has the Fahrenheit equivalents listed, but instead of 300, 350, 400, 450, etc., itās 320, 355, 390, 425, 460. Itās not a big deal, just slightly annoying. For things that say heat at 400, I just put it at 390 for a couple minutes shorter than the instructions, anyway, as it heats up fast and the food is really close to the heating elements. Have to be careful with things like rolls because the tops burn easily.
So I had to get this fancy oven when I got my new house, which I thought was dumb. It has an āair fryerā setting that cooks pizza rolls faster than normal bake settings so thatās cool.

When you just canāt wait 12 minutes.
hey itās more than that, takes some time to preheat the oven too.
