Reading the comments, it sounds like they have positive energy on the plasma. But the net gain is still very negative when accounting for the energy put into the laser (I think).

Seems to be a lot of commenters throwing cold water. Sounds like it could be “energy in the lasers” and “amount of electricity used to fire up the lasers” are different things.
As well as “energy produced by the reaction” and “amount of electricity that can be produced by the reaction” also being two different things, with the latter being at best 50% of the former.
Tritium fuel is very rare; most of it is already being consumed just by a handful of experimental reactors. The only way to get more tritium is as a trace byproduct of the fission reactors we’re trying to get away from.
