As a completely untrained high school/college kid, when I umpired rec league games I think I was making like $63 per game for 14-16 year olds, $50ish for 12-14, $40ish for 10-12. That was 15-20 years ago. Straight cash too.
Having to threaten a strike (pun intended) for $90 a game as a certified, unionized, umpire in 2023 is mind blowing.
Umpiring was both the most and least fun I’ve had making money. Being outside, active, involved in a great game was amazing. Parents/coaches absolute worst.
