2022 NFL Gameday Thread: C’mon Damar (Part 1)

only texans/cards fire head coaches so far?

this is usually a day of carnage

well only a handful of teams finished worse than 7-10

Uber back to Buffalo?

Think so. Only five teams with open jobs right now.

Probably a chopper, he’s still in a Buffalo area hospital.

Could any playoff coaches be in danger if they have losses in the first round? Staley? Bowles?

dolphins too if they can get payton/brady

though man another QB with not much of arm strength now with those WR’s

Pete Carroll is 71. but maybe he’ll coach forever who knows

that’s it though outside of what you stated and even then bucs would only do it for a full rebuild

I’d be shocked if Dolphins move on from McDaniel and Tua. Seems pretty idiotic to dump a solid young QB/coach combo for the hopes of squeezing one more year out of a declining Brady. Dolphins had their issues, but when Tua was healthy this year they looked pretty good and if he takes another step forward, they are legit championship contenders next year.

Of course NFL teams are idiots so anything is possible.

Pete is in 0 danger of being fired after massively outperforming expectations and Russ sucking in Denver. I imagine if he was thinking about retiring he would have done it last year.

Strong disagree here. First of all, Dolphins were really not ever good this season. They had two luckbox wins against good teams and never beat a decent team again after Tua got his bell rung.

Tua is not a long term answer. He is fragile AF and one big hit away from retirement. Even setting aside his concussion issues, he’s still has quite the injury history. You cannot build a team around this guy and you most definitely can’t give him a long term $$$ contract.

Can you maybe squeeze another season out of him on his rookie deal? Maybe. I’d honestly rather have Brady’s corpse than that. Setting aside the personal disgust at having to root for Brady, he’s an upgrade imo. He’s accurate and he can read defenses very well. Also refs don’t let anyone lay a finger on him. He also maybe only has one year left, but I’ll take that over Tua.

I like McDaniel, but I think Payton is better. He’s proven and, unlike Carroll, he’s not super old. Unless McDaniel is Bellichick 2.0, I don’t think there is much downside risk of going from McDaniel to Payton.

I think if we had a promising young QB, then I’d obviously keep them over switching to Brady. And for the sake of that’s QB’s continuity, I’d keep McDaniel rather than go to Payton. But given that Tua is trash, I’m willing to roll the dice on Payton plus a year of Brady and see what happens.

Tua strongly in the mix for league MVP 10 weeks into the season now hopeless trash. Things move quick around here.

Tua Is not trash. If the argument is he will have to retire in next year or two because of concussions and team shouldn’t roll the dice on that random outcome that’s something different.

I guess I have a more expansive definition of trash. It includes health.

I’m not convinced healthy Tua is that great. I’d say peak, in form Tua is an average QB who is on a team with some amazing weapons. I know there are some stats out there that make him seem great. But I think they’re misleading. I’m pretty sure I have watched every single pro snap he has played.

I have been saying Tua is trash all season long. There might have been a second where I said “Maybe, I’m wrong on this”, but that was very brief.

They basically have to fifth year option Tua this offseason right? Seems highly unlikely they don’t when he was awesome for large chunks of the season and led the league in QB rating. Would be desperately stalling on extending him beyond 2024.

well, he doesn’t have an arm on a team of speedsters

doesn’t make sense to extend him

Mike Williams out.

I’m torn between wanting Mahomes v. Herbert Playoff Edition and lol-ing at the Chargers. Gonna be a game time decision.

lol Staley what a dope

Might end up with the incredibly rare Santa Clara thunderstorm during the game tomorrow.

Gotta be the best possible outcome for the Hawks. Game goes from solid SF favorites to much more of a crapshoot. Rookie QB in his first sloppy game? Defense hampered by terrible footing?

Look for Deebo and McCaffery to be much more important tomorrow than they have been in the last few weeks.

Only positive for SF in this situation is that this takes a pretty big weight off the secondary. Playing the long game in conditions like these is for suckers.
