Wasn’t the COVID schedule designed to have maximum accommodation of potential changes?
There’s a realistic deadline for when the game would have to be resumed without impacting the week 18 schedule. To do so, they probably have to make a decision before they remove the breathing tube and have a better idea of Hamlin’s prognosis.
Do you have the Bills fly back to Cincinnati to go through the motions of preparing to resume the game before you make a decision?
What’s the integrity of the seeding process and why should it matter?
That was tongue-in-cheek. The Chiefs will be the beneficiary of a cancelled game, but what can you do that’s just the way the cookie crumbles. Step one is still medical miracle then we’ll figure out step two+.
Zero chance the Chiefs do anything like that. It’s really unfortunate this wasn’t a case where both teams had clinched their divisions and were only jockeying for position between the 2 & 3 seeds or something, because then it would be a lot easier to pull the trigger and either award a tie or take the game off the schedule.
I assume the live line had to be pretty close to a pickem, but take whatever it was and load up the ping pong ball machine with 53 bengals balls and 47 bills balls or whatever and let the universe decide.
Then no one gets paid for that game, right (excluding guaranteed salaries)? From there, NFLPA files a grievance over it and it becomes an issue. Also, the NFL likely has some legal obligations to meet with advertisers and TV networks through playing the games.
There’s every incentive in the world for the NFL to force these teams to play no matter how bad it makes them look. With Damar seemingly not dead, it makes it more socially acceptable to push forward with these plans.
It’s fairly negligent for the league not to have a contingency policy that goes into affect after a catastrophic injury that all officials, broadcasters, advertisers, and all other concerned parties are aware of. Like just let the coaches/players make the call on the field and if they decide to call it then just chill for like 2 days then have some options. This isn’t hard.
Hocm maybe, the others make no sense. Vertebral artery dissection doesn’t cause sudden cardiac arrest. Force wasn’t enough for neurogenic shock, also doesn’t cause sudden cardiac arrest really either.
Not sure they’d be getting stiffed under the CBA. Would have to see details on what happens with a suspended game, but we learned during COVID that players arent paid for unplayed games under the CBA.
Obviously the owners should pay and one would hope this could be solved to be “equitable” among owners and with them doing the right thing, but seems like it would end up in a grievance.
Trying to jam in two Bills games in like 6 days or w/e under current circumstances seems absurd though. They should be working towards a solution that doesnt involve the Bills playing and that (hopefully) pays the players. At the very least the Bills as a team should be able to decide whether to play or not (although that has its own issues).
Everyone agreeing that integrity of the seeding or whatever should have zero weight would be the right thing to do and very helpful to this process.
Haha you can’t play this game within two days, probably not even two weeks, and maybe not at all. Even allowing someone to speculate on that means you completely fucked up.
Also, it probably wouldn’t be stiffing under the CBA. A no contest result is treated as though as the game was never played even if it was partially played. No game = no pay.
Now if the Bengals get the win because they were ahead 7-3 when the injury went down, that sets a dangerous precedent of players faking deadly injuries while their team is ahead in order to secure the victory. Gonna make the game suck.
Damar’s gofundme chairty drive is over $4 million now
