2022 Midterm Elections (Abandon hope all ye who enter here) butnahhh. or maybe?

Robert Heinlein said you gotta solve a quadratic equation. Not a founder and not a good idea and he said a lot of stuff but I thought I’d throw it out there.

Mason and Sklansky and the Unabomber could vote. Not the right test.

Trump’s surprisingly strong performance among Latino voters helped fuel his 3.5-point win in the Sunshine State in 2020. Perhaps nowhere was that dynamic more pronounced than in Miami-Dade County, where Trump lost by just 7 points to Biden after trailing Hillary Clinton there by 30 points in 2016.

Republicans have picked up where Trump left off. More than half of their gains in registered voters can be attributed to the 58,000 new Hispanic voters who checked “Republican” on their forms. Democrats, though, are bleeding support from these communities. The party saw a net loss of more than 46,000 Hispanic voters.

Solution: Don’t run any hispanic candidates. Instead, run a 70 year old white guy who used to be an elected Republican.

been eating 2 honey crisp apples a day for a couple weeks now. pretty sure i’m gonna do that forever. lol

still wouldn’t win florida

NV is like 30% hispanic and masto is probably going to lose to the crazy white dude

Republicans have learned they can peel off at least a few percent of each minority group by giving a “we’re gonna fascism and you can fascism too!” pitch.

For Latinos they punch down at Black people and criminals getting a free ride in this country, or loose women getting abortions, despite calling Mexicans rapists literally, making the lives of even legal immigrants hell intentionally in an effort to make them “self-deport”, gutting Medicaid programs that would help their communities massively, etc. Oh and of course they mash that Free Square: Anti-Cuba in Florida.

For Asians they play tough on China, and hint that Black people are taking your smart kids’ spots at elite colleges, despite flipping to racist dog whistles about Asians whenever convenient.

For Black people they stoke conspiracy theories, homophobia, and anti-Semitism, basically scapegoating the Black community’s problems onto other minority groups, which they know will appeal to some voters. Or they concern troll with talk about communities, families, crime, drugs, and how Democrats’ failures are to blame for the problems (since Democrats are the ones who have actually tried to address them)—all despite Republicans at every turn exacerbating every one of those problems, often deliberately.

There’s even LGBTQ outreach, but that has subsided as they have become more explicitly demonized in the last cycle. But if you get a couple points, it doesn’t matter: they do it.

Everything they do to appeal to these groups is just a bullshit half truth, but it doesn’t matter. For lots of people, that’s all it takes. The only groups Republicans don’t really try for are Jewish people and, oddly, women.

Dems just don’t have an answer for all this. They try to outreach to rural areas with things like forcing dumbass Republican governors to accept Medicaid expansion (and poor rural people cheer when their governor tells the feds to pound sand even on a 90% cost sharing deal) or by going on about some job training program nobody gives a shit about. Blah blah blah.

I don’t have an answer at what they should do—not being terrible at communicating and endlessly patronizing towards these groups would be a start I guess.

Could Timothy McVeigh not vote?

Yeah like if Bolsonaro leaves peacefully and stays in Brazil he’s almost certainly doing time, at least that’s what I’m told.

This no consequences for criminal conservative political leaders seems uniquely American.

Fuck, was that the American Exceptionalism the whole time?

Dark money third party groups running ads attacking Republicans for reframed truths.

“Ron DeSantis claims to be for tax cuts, but the truth is, he’s sending your tax dollars out of Florida to radical liberal states like California and New York to fund their Medicaid expansion for lazy unemployed people.”

It’s basically true, but reframes rejecting Medicaid expansion as giving tax dollars away instead of rejecting them coming in.

He had other ideas for voter qualification but they were even worse.

So, who is gonna give him asylum?

Karen comes home. Always.

Great messaging and KITCHEN TABLE strategy guys:

Asked who has a better economic plan, 50% of this cohort said Republicans in Congress and 35% said Democrats. On inflation, 55% said Republicans would get it under control and 24% said Democrats.

On the one hand, Rs threaten women’s reproductive rights at every turn. On the other hand, I don’t want younger women to have it easier than I had it, that’s not fair. And Dems aren’t doing ANYTHING about the scourge of pedophile trans people in bathrooms that are after my kids!

I’m shocked that building an extra bridge in 2030 didn’t resonate as the centerpiece of an economic plan to help ordinary Americans.

Maybe it truly is hopeless for Democrats given all the structural challenges but man if we’re going down can we at least go down swinging instead of droning on about cooperating with our good friends the republicans who tell their voters were murdering babies and drinking their blood.

Their leader in the House just had her home invaded by someone that wanted to attack her with a hammer. Probably the only reason she’s not dead is that she wasn’t there.

They still don’t get it.

It’s hard to fathom but all I can say is that you and I are completely certain that the sun will rise tomorrow. Everything we know about it from our daily experiences over years and everything we’ve been taught about the science of reality tells us this is guaranteed to happen. We would, sensibly, never bother listening to people or watching YouTube videos asserting that tomorrow the sun is not going to rise. We are definitely not going to plan for a tomorrow where the sun doesn’t rise. I imagine this is what it feels like to eDems. When people say Rs are actually just Nazis now and their voters are dangerously delusional and they are not going to accept any election outcome they don’t like and some of them are going to try to beat eDems to death with hammers, to them is sounds like we’re saying the sun won’t rise tomorrow. And if those things happen, if R supporters murder eDems and if the Dems win the 2024 Presidential election but the Rs just won’t recognize it and go through the motions necessary to peacefully proceed and if the Rs then seize control of government and implement national oppression, the eDems will be just as shocked as you would be if the sun doesn’t rise tomorrow. That’s why we are inevitably going to just let this stuff happen if the Rs want it to happen.
