They won’t need to do that in 2024. There probably won’t be any ballot drop boxes by then in most places.

Well I don’t recognize those people, so that’s good I guess.

These clowns aren’t intimidating anybody. Their operation is idiotic on several levels.

First, there are only two of these outdoor unmanned 24/7 drive through drop boxes in the county, both outside election offices. A vanishingly small portion of ballots will be dropped into these boxes, as opposed to any of the dozens of early voting centers, any of the Election Day poll locations, or mostly just sent through the fucking US mail.

Second, they can’t possibly see anything suspicious from a hundred feet away and even if they did, what are they going to do, report it? Put a photo on Twitter? Ok, thanks!

I’m much more concerned about organized violence, interference, and intimidation on Election Day.

One good thing is that since about 2018, if you want to vote in person you don’t have to go to a specific polling place. You can go to any voting center in the county and they will print the right ballot for you on demand.

They’ll put the videos/photos on social media alongside captions insinuating that “something” suspicious is happening. Those photos will be shared as proof that the election was stolen in order to fuel the subsequent conspiracy theories and, potentially, violence when their preferred candidate doesn’t win. And if their preferred candidate does win, it was thanks to their brave efforts to protect the integrity of the vote.

How little life do you have to have to sit and watch a fucking ballot drop for hours on end?

Yup. Look at those huge losses in 1994 and 2010. Guess who was in control then?

If there’s just a small loss in the midterms, that would be surprising.

this actually seems like it might be a meaningful endorsement?

This is good for democrats. Even though the average boomer deplorable is extremely likely to make it to the polls, some non-zero number of them who decide to wait until election day will get sidetracked and not make it to the polls at all. At the margin, this will depress GOP turnout (even if very slightly).

“we need to vote on the last day, the day of Election Day, so they don’t know how much to cheat by.”

This makes no sense.

It also flies in the face of the “stop counting on election night” crowd.

Don’t tap the tank.

Not really the main issue. the chart in isolation is misleading because democrats had such a huge majority in 2008. When you’re defending 70 more seats you basically have no pick up opportunities and are trying to hold seats in districts 7 points more Republican than the country as a whole.

If they win, no problem. If they don’t, they’ll point to the chaos and delay in results as evidence that it was rigged.

Exactly correct. And they’ll probably be at least as successful as they were in 2020 in undermining the election.

We have a couple of ballot propositions related to “election integrity” (i.e., voter suppression) and the argument for them always starts with like “The people have lost faith in elections…” Yeah, no shit, I wonder why.

This is overall horrifying of course, but one silver lining is that Storey county only has 4000 people so Jim Hindle can’t do too much damage there.

In spite of the high profile and recent reports, I don’t think there’s much of this going on in Maricopa County. I’m working on the election again this year and things seem to be going pretty smoothly so far. The elections staff seem incredibly dedicated and professional. There are just so many corner cases for voting that most people don’t realize. For example, I recently learned about special processes related to UOCAVA ballots. Checks and balances and and paperwork for every step of every process.

There’s also better planning and preparation for this election; we have extra scanners set up for tabulation if needed, and two shifts of adjudicators are already planned for starting next week.

It doesn’t matter to the Mike Lindells of the world, but people who get involved and actually learn about the process always seem to come away impressed and confident in the security and legitimacy of the election.
