The idea that money doesnt effect happiness is another one of those meme like studies. There was one original paper that suggested this (although if I recall it was 70k, and 30 + years ago). And it just blew up and became accepted wisdom. Even though all the other papers on the topic either suggested otherwise or at least said āits complicatedā
Which doesnt take away from the fact that Oz is dumb. But he went a little extra dumb on something that many people have been dumb about.

I donāt disagree that Oz is dumb, but he was actually pretty accomplished in his medical career. Hereās part of his educational background:

Do I think heās an idiot with no scruples, absolutely, but Oz and other examples demonstrate that we need a more nuanced conception of dumbness that includes a sort of sociopathy where one seeks fame or money without scruples. Dershowitz, Greenwald, Pompeo, Hawley, and Turley are other examples.
BTW, I would consider someone seeking a joint MD/MBA degree as a red flag.

One other big problem with the herp derp money doesnāt buy happiness study is that the discussion is at the wrong end of the scale. No one should really give a shit if $200k income makes you way happier than $100k income. By far the more pressing matter is the crushing desperation of people at the low end of the income scale, their powerlessness in a society dominated by money and the resultant damage that does to the prospects of their kids. But sure, letās worry about whether millionaires are actually happy.

That seems WAY too subtle for political advertising.
My home voting district for US congress was a solid R+30 for like 40 years before 2018, when a dem won it. She successfully defended in 2020 and in 2022 redistricting basically eliminated the district and I got to vote for Rashida Talib.
I love her but it makes me worried how well these fuckers gerrymandered her district
