Pats and Genos = tourist is spot on. I assume some collage of all these will end up on TV. I think the house tour already has been in an ad.

Donkeys is good. They are a bit more unique with their round roll cheesesteaks. There are tons of legit great places in the city, and Pats/Genos do not fall on that list. Oregon Steak, Jim’s, and any hole in the wall are better options and non touristy.
The one time I had Pat’s 20+ years ago, I loved it. Had Geno’s once and it’s a cheese steak so it’s good by default, but wasn’t nearly as good as Pat’s.
Went to some other “locals” place, too, and it was unmemorable. Again, default cheese steak still has a high floor.
Having Waffle House for dinner and am not in the mood for a waffle, so I’m getting a Texas cheesesteak melt.

The problem with actual Philly Philly cheesesteak is that awful liquid synthetic “cheese” also found in movie theater nacho packs. It is way better with provolone.
